Alex Palmer’s contract at West Brom expires at the end of the season and right now, the 22-year-old is more than likely concerned about whether or not he will remain at The Hawthorns for the start of 2019/20.

The goalkeeper has spent all of his career with West Brom but is yet to make a senior appearance and has only really been kept around to play for the Under-23s.

However the chances of Palmer earning a new deal with the Baggies are surely very low, especially because Darren Moore has Sam Johnstone, Boaz Myhill and Jonathan Bond to choose from, effectively making the 6ft tall (transfermarkt) Under-23s player fourth choice.

Palmer may have just been handed a huge chance to save his Hawthorns career though after it was confirmed on Wednesday that he has joined Oldham Athletic on a short-term emergency loan.

Even though Oldham play just one game while he is on loan in the North-West, Palmer is likely to get the nod to make his first Football League appearance against Cambridge United at Boundary Park this weekend.

That is because Oldham’s number one shot-stopper Daniel Iversen has been called up to international with Denmark’s Under-21s, and Palmer could be seen as the best option to play between the sticks by manager Frankie Bunn.

If he impresses in that one game then Palmer could find himself wanted by a number of clubs on loan in January and if he impresses then as well, he could yet win himself a new deal at West Brom and really start to challenge for the first team.
