Newcastle United could be without Jamaal Lascelles, Paul Dummett and Jonjo Shelvey for their clash against Burnley on Monday night, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper claimed in their live blog on Friday [10:31am] that Dummett suffered a hamstring injury while on international duty with Wales and both Lascelles and Shelvey are missing from training with injuries of their own.

It is understood that Yoshinori Muto has returned to training but it looks as though Newcastle could be without the senior trio for their trip to Turf Moor next week.

OPINION

Newcastle were on brilliant form before the international break and fans will be praying that two weeks without a fixture won’t have disrupted the team’s momentum. However if that hadn’t, then missing three key players in Dummett, Shelvey and Lascelles could be a real problem for Rafa Benitez. The Toon manager does not have a big squad to choose from and he has very little strength in depth. Mike Ashley has failed to offer up the funds needed to build a solid Premier League squad and that has led to the likelihood that Benitez will not be able to field a team capable of winning at Turf Moor. Burnley are not playing well at the moment so they could be there for the taking but looking at the two sides on paper, Sean Dyche is more than likely going to have the team that will win on Monday simply because of the key players that Newcastle may be without.
