Tottenham youngster Dilan Markanday signed his first professional contract with the club in August, according to reliable club insider Lilywhite Rose.

The Twitter account – which is an increasingly reliable source of information from Spurs – claims that Markanday, 17, agreed terms for a professional deal in the summer.

Markanday has been in super form for Spurs’ Under-18s this season, scoring four goals in 10 appearances in both the Under-18 Premier League and UEFA Youth League.

OPINION

Tottenham have some really promising young players coming through their ranks and Markanday is someone who is in seriously good form and is repaying the club for offering him a professional contract. Since penning those new terms on August 20, the winger has been on a goal-scoring streak in the Under-18s Premier League by netting against Southampton, Reading, West Ham and Norwich in consecutive games. Hopefully we will be seeing more of the youngster in the future because he does look like an exciting talent. For now though Markanday just needs to focus on his good form for the Under-18s before seeing if he can break into the Under-23s. Once you are at that level then Mauricio Pochettino will have a look at you if you’re good enough while other top teams in England could also become interested. Luckily Spurs now have the teenager tied down to a pro deal so that he cannot be pinched away.
