A section of Leeds United fans have been reacting on Twitter after it was reported that the club is eyeing up Roma forward Ezequiel Ponce, who is currently on loan at AEK Athens.

ClubCall has claimed that the Whites sent a scout to keep close tabs on Ponce, 21, as he played for AEK in their 0-0 draw with Panathinaikos on Saturday.

Some Leeds fans are excited to see their side linked with the Argentine attacker, with one saying that he would be a “huge coup” for the Yorkshire giants if he was to head to Elland Road.

COMMENTARY:

Ponce has been in decent form for AEK Athens this season and while Leeds would have to wait until next summer to sign the loaned-out Roma man, he would be a fine addition to Marcelo Bielsa’s attacking options. Judging by the reactions of some of the Leeds supporters, they would be quite happy to see Ponce head to Elland Road. The Yorkshire club would more than likely have to be in the Premier League to attract someone with his potential, but either way, it’s exciting to see that the recruitment staff are planning for potential promotion from the Championship this season. Ponce has scored five goals in 15 appearances across all competitions for AEK this season. While that does not look like he is prolific, most of his outings have come in Europe, where it is much harder for a team like AEK to score after they massively overachieved just to reach the Champions League group stages.
