Everton need to find themselves a new right-back in the January transfer window to ensure that they do not leave themselves in a bad position like they were earlier in the season when Seamus Coleman was injured.

Jonjoe Kenny hardly impressed as he stepped up in Coleman’s absence and with the Republic of Ireland international so injury prone lately, it is time that Marco Silva and director of football Marcel Brands sign a player that can add some serious strength in depth to that area.

Brands could play an absolute blinder if he was able to convince Tottenham to part with their back-up right-back Serge Aurier, who has only made seven appearances in all competitions so far this season.

Kieran Trippier is clearly Mauricio Pochettino’s first-choice right-back in North London and the Argentine also has youngster Kyle Walker-Peters to call on in that position as well as Aurier.

Daniel Levy is always someone who will look for a good deal and considering Spurs’ right-back area would be fine if Aurier left, Everton should try and make a move for the Ivory Coast international in the January transfer window.

The 25-year-old speed demon is someone who would slot perfectly into the Toffees’ starting line-up using his pace to terrify opposing defences and add some serious support for Theo Walcott on the wing.

The £80,000-a-week (Spotrac) Tottenham player does lack in his defensive attributes, but that is where Coleman is quite strong and having the two options to rotate between could be a stroke of genius by Silva.

Play Coleman in the big games against the Premier League’s top six sides and then unleash Aurier when playing teams in and around the Toffees, as well as those slogging it out at the wrong end of the table.

It is an area that must be looked at in January so Everton do not have a repeat of what happened earlier in the season when Coleman was injured.

Signing Aurier would be an absolute masterstroke by Silva and Brands if he was the solution to their problem.
