Leeds United have announced that highly-rated centre-back Oliver Casey has agreed terms on a professional contract that will see him stay at Leeds until at least the summer of 2020, and fans are delighted for the youngster.
News of the deal was announced by Leeds on Thursday lunchtime on their official Twitter page.
COMMENTARY
Leeds need a new centre-back in the first-team squad and some Leeds fans have joked about Casey getting into the side to face Bristol City a week on Saturday. That might be a bit too soon for the 18-yer-old. Others jokingly asked if he got injured when he signed the contract, while another said he would probably be announced as cover when the results of Pontus Jansson’s scan came back with bad news later on today. However, many others were delighted for him, with some fans saying they’d seen him in action and that he was a “class footballer” and would be a star of the future. His deal takes him through to 2020 and he’s already moved up from the Under-18s to the Under-23s. And there’s never been a better time to play for Carlos Corberan’s side. Several players have already made the jump up and there are plenty of Leeds fans hoping that Casey will be next.
