OPINION
This was far from a vintage performance from Ørjan Nyland in Aston Villa’s 4-2 victory over Birmingham City on Saturday. The Villans were victorious in the derby, but their goalkeeper’s performance will have done nothing to quell their supporters’ distrust of the Norwegian. He has had issues all season long. He doesn’t look comfortable coming out for the ball and, while his shot-stopping is good, he has difficulty with other areas of the position. He wasn’t the only one at fault for Birmingham’s opener, for Tammy Abraham should have done better on the line and Glenn Whelan allowed Jutkiewicz to escape far too easily, but Nyland certainly didn’t cover himself in glory either. He just looks a little sloppy at times and that was demonstrated again on Saturday. Villa could do with upgrading their goalkeeping position in January because Nyland has cost them a few times this campaign. It appears that the fans wouldn’t be averse to that idea.
