Leeds are interested in bringing Rangers keeper Wes Foderingham to Elland Road in January, according to the Express.

The Championship side has a crisis at the back after both number one goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell and Chelsea loanee Jamal Blackman were injured.

Blackman broke his leg and has returned to Chelsea after his loan was cut short.

It meant that Leeds had to give Under-23 keeper Will Huffer his debut in the game against Bristol City, which Leeds won 2-0.

Foderingham has been displaced at Rangers, with Allan McGregor the established number one.

The report claims that it might not be easy to make the move as Rangers need a quality back-up and number three Jan Alnwick is out on loan at Scunthorpe, although he will be back in January.

It says they might have to pay a fee for Foderingham as Steven Gerrard would be unlikely to sanction a loan move.

The former Liverpool player and Premier League legend hailed Foderingham as “outstanding” earlier this month.

Leeds first choice, Burnley’s Tom Heaton, looks set to join rivals Aston Villa on loan.

Good move for Leeds?

A very good move. Foderingham can feel a bit unlucky to have lost his place to McGregor after having a pretty good season at Ibrox in 17/18. He’s done well whenever he’s been called upon, but Gerrard obviously prefers McGregor, who is a top goalie and a very safe pair of hands. Would Foderingham come in as the number one or back-up to Peacock-Farrell? That’s an interesting question and it could be either. Foderingham is only 27 and could easily push Peacock-Farrell for the first-team place.

Likely to happen?

There are a few factors at play here. It was reported that Gerrard was ready to let Foderingham go in the summer but instead he stayed and Alnwick left on loan. If he comes back in January then Foderingham could be sold if the price is right. Leeds will sign a goalkeeper in January, it’s their priority, and Foderingham would seem to fit the bill. He comes with a massive amount of experience at a high-pressure club and has played in the Europa League. Leeds would be able to afford him and could see him as the best option out there if they want to keep Peacock-Farrell in the first-team. We think it’s got legs.
