Leeds United are lining up a swoop to sign Burnley goalkeeper Tom Heaton on a permanent deal, according to Football Insider.

The reliable site claim the Yorkshire giants are ready to make a move for the 32-year-old England international, who has lost his starting spot at the Clarets this season to former Three Lions number one Joe Hart.

Football Insider report Heaton is top of United’s goalkeeper list after the double blow of losing Jamal Blackman to a broken leg and Bailey Peacock-Farrell to a knee injury.

Good move for Leeds?

Yes, definitely. Heaton is an England international with extensive Premier League and Championship experience who already has two successful promotion campaigns on his CV. He would instantly add pedigree to a dressing room short of proven calibre, as well as giving the club a top-class goalkeeper who can win matches on his own. Bailey Peacock-Farrell has done as well as anyone could have possibly hoped since being fast-tracked into the starting XI but still has much to learn. Heaton is as close to a nailed-on certainty as Leeds could get in terms of signings capable of immediately thriving in Championship football. After losing his Burnley place to loanee Joe Hart, the goalkeeper would arrive at Elland Road with something to prove.

Likely to happen?

There is a good chance, although Heaton is likely to be a goalkeeper in demand. The encouraging news for Leeds and other Championship suitors is he is said to be willing to drop down a division in order to get regular playing time. Much will depend upon which club are willing to meet his wage demands.
