Leeds United are keen on signing Leyton Orient striker Macauley Bonne after recent scouting missions, according to TeamTalk.

The football site claim the Championship giants are among four second-tier clubs keeping close tabs on the one-time Zimbabwe international, with Nottingham Forest, Derby County and Norwich City also in the race.

TeamTalk report Leeds and the other clubs are all “ready to make a move” after Bonne’s outstanding record of 14 goals from 20 matches for National League site Orient this season.

Good move for Leeds?

Only if the United recruitment team are convinced Bonne can replicate his goal-machine performances in the fifth tier of English football in the second one. Certainly, the 23-year-old has been outstanding for the London-based club, netting 36 goals in 65 appearances since making the short move from Colchester. His eye for goal has alerted a number of Championship outfits, which suggests there are a few who believe he can still make it in the upper echelons of the Football League after a mixed spell in League One and League Two when he was younger. Leeds are certainly in need of striker reinforcements, given how thin their squad is, as they attempt to challenge for automatic promotion.

Likely to happen?

There’s a good chance. Especially if Leeds’ interest is as significant as reported. The Yorkshire giants bought a striker from Leyton Orient in January of this year, when Sam Dalby was signed for around £200,000, so there is already a history of successful negotiations between the two clubs.
