Leeds were hit with another fitness blow on Monday, with the news that Pontus Jansson will not be ready for the Championship game against Reading on Tuesday night, and is a doubt for the huge game against Sheffield United on Saturday.

Marcelo Bielsa confirmed the bad news in the pre-match press conference on Monday lunchtime (live on the official Leeds United mobile app) and said he had expected him to be fit by now.

“That’s why I would be cautious before saying he can play on Saturday”.

OPINION

Leeds fans must be wondering when this is going to end. There was a hope that Jansson would be able to play against Bristol City last Saturday, but he was ruled out. The makeshift defence held out for a 3-0 win and kept a clean sheet, but the Sheffield United game will be an altogether different test. There’s been a recurrence of Leeds players being injured this season and not making it back for initial estimates. Both Kemar Roofe and Pablo Hernandez ended up missing more games than had originally been thought and now Jansson joins the list. What seemed like an innocuous knock could now see him miss three key Championship games and potentially more. And Beisla still maintains he doesn’t need to strengthen. At this rate it could just be him sat on a bucket in goal for Leeds come the end of the season. And we still think he’d manufacture a way to win.
