Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa has confirmed that the club have been handed a huge boost with senior goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell able to start against Reading on Tuesday night.

The shot stopper missed his first Championship game of the season on Saturday with an injury blow and after backup keeper Jamal Blackman was ruled out with a broken leg, Will Huffer was handed his debut in the 2-0 win.

Speaking ahead of their midweek clash against the Royals, Bielsa revealed that the 22-year-old had recovered from his setback and would be available to start on Tuesday in what is a big boost for the Whites.

Speaking at his press conference, he said: “Bailey, he can be a starter tomorrow.”

Opinion

Huffer might well have kept a clean sheet on his debut but having Peacock-Farrell’s experience back between the sticks will be huge for Bielsa and Leeds. Yes, he might have had a couple of shaky moments this season but that does not take away from the fact he is a Championship quality goalkeeper who is only going to get better with age and experience. Fans can expect to see the shot stopper thrown straight back into the side as they continue to hunt for a top six finish come the end of the season. What this means for their reported hunt of another goalkeeper is that they are unlikely to seal an emergency loan and will instead have to wait until January before they can strengthen their side. It seems likely that Bielsa will bring in another experienced keeper to ensure that he has options to call upon and to avoid a repeat of the injury problems suffered over the last fortnight.
