Sky Sports pundit Craig Bellamy has heaped praise on Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish, saying that he should be in the England squad.

Talking on Sky Sports Bellamy said. “I’d like to see Grealish in it [England squad]. I believe he’s a top player but with what’s going on with Villa at the moment he isn’t playing his best football.”

Asked whether Grealish was consistent enough for England, Bellamy said he was.

“He’s shown big periods last season he was, especially the way he ended the season was special. I think he was one of the best players in the Championship last season.”

OPINION
There are a lot of fans who don’t think Grealish is at the England level yet, but that’s down to exposure. Playing in the Championship, most people don’t see what Grealish does week-in, week-out. He’s a special player, like Bellamy said, and the fact that Tottenham were hunting him down last summer, with Mauricio Pochettino saying he couldn’t find anyone else to improve his squad, says it all. It’s always tough for England managers to pick players from the Championship but we think that Grealish should be in the squad. But then we also thought Ryan Sessegnon deserved a shot last season and he didn’t get a look-in. Villa are having a tough season, even with their new manager, and unless something changes dramatically they’re not going to worry the automatic promotion spots. Will Grealish stay for another season in the Championship? That’s going to be a big question for the Villa hierarchy if it comes to pass.
