West Ham are set to sign Paraguay international Miguel Almiron from Atlanta United in January, according to Ultima Hora.

The Paraguayan newspaper claims that Almiron, 24, will head to the London Stadium for a fee worth £25.7million so that Atlanta can afford to snap up Gonzalo Martinez from River Plate.

It is understood that Arsenal and Tottenham were also interested in signing the MLS goal machine, who has scored 12 goals and supplied 13 assists in 32 league games this season.

Good move for West Ham?

Manuel Pellegrini would be paying a lot of money to sign Almiron, but based on his stats in the USA, you have to say that he would be a good signing for West Ham.

Almiron has been in blistering form over the last couple of seasons and he is due a move to Europe.

Many will scoff at the fact that he is scoring his goals in the MLS, but Almiron has attracted attention from some big clubs and would slot well into Pellegrini’s side, which is starting to boast a large number of South American players.

Likely to happen?

This report from Paraguay seems to think that and news of West Ham’s swoop to sign Almiron’s international team-mate Fabian Balbuena started in South America over the summer.

It will be a big-money move by the Hammers, who have been without Manuel Lanzini all season so far and Andriy Yarmolenko has been ruled out for the next six months.

Pellegrini might want another attacking player in his side and could be tempted to go big on the MLS dazzler.
