West Ham are reportedly in the hunt to sign PSV midfielder Jorrit Hendrix – and the Londoners could play a blinder if they were able to sign the highly-rated Netherlands international.

Italian news outlet Calcio Mercato has reported that the Hammers are eyeing up the 23-year-old enforcer, who has helped PSV reach the Champions League group stages this season.

Hendrix is also said to be on the radar of other Premier League sides, with TeamTalk recently claiming that Tottenham have been “hugely impressed” by the Dutch ace.

It seems like a race may be unfolding to sign the Eindhoven star, and West Ham simply must win it.

Hammers fans have been crying out for the club to add a quality defensive midfielder to their side and the recent injury blow to Carlos Sanchez means that Manuel Pellegrini has already lost some of the steel from his midfield.

Hendrix is someone who is happy to sit in front of the backline, dictating tempo while also having the necessary abilities to be able to shutdown opposition attacks.

PSV have had a lot of success with Hendrix also playing as a centre-back to move the ball out of defence and into the midfield.

The Netherlands international is simply brilliant at what he does and given West Ham’s shortage of defensive midfielders, he should be made Pellegrini’s number one priority for the January transfer window.

With interest growing in the 23-year-old, it may cause quite the dent in Pellegrini’s transfer budget if he was to go out and sign the player, but there is no doubt that he could be a star at the London Stadium for years to come.
