Stan Collymore has claimed that Aston Villa are not fit for purpose following their 2-1 defeat to Millwall at the New Den on Saturday.

Tammy Abraham for the Villains off to a good start but for the second time this week, the West Midlands club let their lead slip, but this time failed to produce an equaliser in London.

Steve Bruce was sacked after the 3-3 draw with Preston on Tuesday and Collymore, in instant reaction to Saturday’s result on Twitter, has blasted the way that his old club is being ran.

“You’ve tried everything from smart a*** CEO’s to promotion specialists, players who’ve had 3 great games at this level, paying fortunes for them,” said Collymore, via his personal Twitter account on Saturday

“Ask Villa people NOW what they think and want, because enough is enough.

“Aston Villa, not fit for purpose.”

OPINION

Villa are in a real mess right now and Collymore can deliver these passionate Twitter messages as much as he wants, but it is just never going to get through to the club’s board because they will always do what they think is best, not what the fans do or ex-players or pundits. It will be very interesting to see who Christian Purslow hires to replace Bruce because he is facing one of the biggest decisions in this club’s recent history. Thierry Henry is the one who seems the most likely judging by media reports and betting odds, but is he really going to be able to turn this around? Everyone will point to how Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard have done at Rangers and Derby, but they had time to build their own squad and had a pre-season. Villa need a motivator and someone from abroad could be their best bet rather than taking a chance on an unknown quantity.
