Alan Shearer has been raving about Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris and claims that the France international came to his side’s rescue in the win against West Ham on Saturday.

Erik Lamela’s 44th minute goal was enough to seal a 1-0 victory for Spurs at the London Stadium and help keep Mauricio Pochettino’s side within touching distance of the top of the Premier League.

Shearer was also impressed by Lamela, but reserved special praise for Lloris after practically sealing all three points with his solid performances between the sticks.

“Like all the best goalkeepers, Lloris came to his side’s rescue when called upon to do so. He made three very good saves,” said Shearer on the Premier League website.

The Newcastle legend was also impressed with Lamela: “The Argentinian scored a good goal and was a constant threat with his pace and trickery.”

OPINION

Lloris has been under-fire for some of his performances this season so it makes a nice change to see the Spurs captain getting some praise for helping his side grind out a narrow win. A lot of Tottenham fans were very impressed with Paulo Gazzaniga’s displays while Lloris and Michel Vorm were injured so it did not look good when Lloris had a shocker against Barcelona in his first game back from his injury. However the France World Cup winner now looks as though he is settling down a bit and as shown at West Ham, he can produce some watch-winning moments in goals. Shearer was also impressed with Lloris’ first team team-mate Lamela, who has been in great form again this season. The Argentina international has scored five goals and supplied two assists in eight appearances across all competitions – Harry Kane would be proud of that record in front of goal.
