Man United put in a tame performance against Juventus in the Champions League at Old Trafford, losing 1-0 to the Italian giants.

Former player turned Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville said that their display was “disappointing overall” but he singled out one United player for praise.

He said that 6ft 2in centre-back Victor Lindelof was “excellent” on his tweet that he sent out late on Tuesday night.

Neville had previously criticised Lindelof as being not good enough to win the Premier League.

OPINION

There weren’t many Man United players who could qualify for praise based on last night’s display. David de Gea pulled off a truly world-class save to deny Cristiano Ronaldo on his return to Old Trafford, and he could do nothing about the goal. Luke Shaw was brilliant again, too, and he’s been one of United’s most consistent players this season. But it was Lindelof, at the heart of the United defence, that was the best player on the pitch. And, but for him, the scoreline could have been less flattering. Fans will be disappointed that United’s attacking players were so poor, especially Anthony Martial after his two goals at the weekend. There was a hope that he would push on after that but he put in a subdued performance, much like Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford, but instead all three flopped on the big stage.
