OPINION

Rangers secured a morale-boosting win over Premiership leaders Hearts at Ibrox on Sunday, and there were plenty of talking points to take away from the clash.

Ryan Kent opened the scoring early before Alfredo Morelos doubled their lead, with Scott Arfield making it three before half-time as Hearts failed to mount a fightback in the second period despite Michael Dunne’s goal.

This is Futbol have picked out three things we learned about Rangers v Hearts below.

Morelos shows another side of his game

Alfredo Morelos has made a huge impact at Ibrox since his £1million move from HJK Helsinki last summer, with the Colombian netting goals on a seriously regular basis for the Light Blues. There has however been a lot of criticism levelled at the 22-year-old during that time, with his selfishness being one of the traits that has come under fire. Morelos however showed another side to his game during the build-up to Rangers’ opener on Sunday, with ‘El Bufalo’ unselfishly squaring the ball for Ryan Kent to slot into an empty net. Obviously all good strikers have to be selfish to some extent, but if Morelos continues to make passes like that then there will soon be little to criticise him for.

Worrall inconsistency rears its head

Joe Worrall has had an up-and-down start to his career in Scotland since his loan move from Nottingham Forest over the summer, and unfortunately that continued on Sunday. After putting in a sublime performance in Europe as the Gers overcame Rapid Vienna 3-1 in the Europa League, Worrall failed to find that form again v Hearts. The young centre-back struggled to deal with powerful Hearts forward Uche Ikpeazu, and was booked early for consistent fouls. There is an argument that he should have done better in the build-up to Hearts’ opener in the second half as well, and it was a poor display overall for the 21-year-old. He really needs to find some more consistency to keep Nikola Katic out of the side. Gerrard should now reinstate the 6ft 4in Croatian colossus to the team after the international break [Transfermarkt].

Kent unplayable again

Ryan Kent has split opinion since his loan move from Liverpool over the summer, with the speedy winger struggling for form in the first few weeks of the season. It has however been a different story in recent games, with the wide man putting in some stunning display which really underline his potential to be a serious player for Rangers. He was unplayable at times against Hearts on Sunday, just as he was in Europe in midweek, and if he continues this form then he will play a huge part in any Rangers’ success this season. He has also recently admitted that he would be open to making his move from Anfield permanent, and there would be no reason for the club to turn that down if he does keep on playing like this.
