Rangers must abandon the reportedly packed race to sign Dundee midfielder Glen Kamara as it is a waste of their time.

The Daily Mail reported that League One outfit Sunderland were the latest team to start pursuing the 22-year-old with Derby County, Burnley, Wolves, Celtic and the Gers already having taken notice of him in recent months.

Kamara has showcase his potential while at Dundee but with his contract ending in the summer then he could soon start negotiating his exit from the Scottish club as he can discuss a pre-contract with foreign sides in January.

Given that this means Derby, Burnley and Wolves have an advantage over the Gers and Celtic in the race for him, then it will be a wasted pursuit.

Steven Gerrard’s side could make a convincing case for why Kamara should join them but it would potentially be a lot of effort for a player that they can cope without.

Kamara is a defensive midfielder and that’s not a position causing the Gers a headache at the moment.

Ross McCrorie is currently excelling for the Gers as a defensive midfielder and has generally impressed across the 10 outings he has made.

The 20-year-old isn’t seen as a first-team regular and is normally sat on the bench and afforded cameo appearances, so it seems odd to welcome Kamara who would potentially be cover for a back-up option.

This is especially the case given the work the Gers would have to put in to convince Kamara to join them as with so many clubs chasing his services then at least some of them are going to throw the kitchen sink at winning the race.

Therefore it seems a waste of time for the Gers to pursue his services as they need to focus on finding players to improve other areas of their team.
