Rangers midfielder Graham Dorrans has suffered another injury setback this week, with the Scotland international potentially set for more surgery.

As reported by the Daily Record, the 31-year-old has sustained another injury after a long line of absences during his time at Ibrox in what will be a blow for manager Steven Gerrard.

“Graham has had a bit of a setback this week and has gone back to see the surgeon,” Gerrard is quoted as saying.

Dorrans has had a tough time of things since completing a dream move to Ibrox last summer, with the experienced midfielder suffering an ankle injury last season before a knee complaint arose in pre-season.

The former Premier League star had made his comeback in recent weeks, including an appearance in the Europa League against Villareal, but is now set for another spell on the sidelines.

This is a huge blow for the Gers as they look to build on a solid start to the season, and an even bigger one for Dorrans as he looked to work his way into Gerrard’s plans.

Unfortunately for him however this is a setback which will inevitably bring his future at the club into question, with the midfielder having made just 23 appearances for the club in a season-and-a-half.

With so many quality young players coming through in that area, including loan stars such as Ovie Ejaria, there is little space for an injury-prone Dorrans at Ibrox anymore.

His wages are draining money from the club which could be being used far more usefully elsewhere, and it has now got to the point where that has to stop – Dorrans is totally dead weight at this point.

Gerrard has not been scared to make the necessary changes so far at Ibrox, and offloading Dorrans at the end of the season is the next big decision that needs to be made.
