Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has confirmed that strikers Alfredo Morelos and Kyle Lafferty are both in contention to play against Kilmarnock on Wednesday.

The key duo missed out on their disappointing 1-0 defeat by Aberdeen in the Betfred Cup semi-finals at the weekend, with Morelos suspended while Lafferty was cup-tied while also returning from an injury which led to a run-in with Northern Ireland.

Speaking in the pre-match press conference ahead of the Premiership clash, Gerrard confirmed that both players would be available against Killie, as quoted by the club’s official Twitter account.

OPINION

The return of Morelos and Lafferty to the squad will be a huge boost for Gerrard as he looks to recover from Sunday’s blow. It was a lack of a frontline striker which really hindered the Light Blues against Aberdeen, with Umar Sadiq really struggling to impact the game in any way. It was a pretty woeful display from the Roma loanee, and Gerrard will be jumping for joy at having his two main strikers back in contention. Morelos is likely to start the game up front for the Gers considering his recent form, but Lafferty may well get the nod alongside him depending on how Gerrard wants to set up. A big home win would be the perfect way to put the weekend’s disappointment behind them and move on with their season. Kilmarnock are dangerous opponents who are in good form, and it will not be an easy match by any stretch of the imagination.
