Paul Gascoigne has hit back at the SFA after their recent Hall of Fame snub.

Gascoigne had his nomination withdrawn last week and it’s led to huge fallout in the media.

In a message aimed at Rangers fans, Gascoigne said that he had played some of the best football of his career at Rangers and loved the support of the fans.

He said he didn’t need to be in the Hall of Fame to know he was one of the best.

OPINION

The snub to Gascoigne has polarised the football world. There are some who think that the behaviour of the football wizard – troubled with alcohol problems – has disqualified him from the HoF. Others think that he deserves to go in purely as one of the best footballers Scotland has ever witnessed. Irrespective of your opinion there’s no doubting that he was treated appallingly, around Mental health Day, by the Scottish authorities. It’s shined a spotlight on Gascoigne and his troubles that he could have done without. It’s true that he doesn’t need the Hall of Fame to prove how good he was. But we think that he absolutely deserves his entry. And, while it’s too late to reverse the decision now, we think that he should be put in at the next earliest opportunity. It’s yet another decision by the SFA that throws doubt on their ability to run football effectively in Scotland, and must pose serious questions beyond the actual Gascoigne issue itself.
