Rangers fans have had a taste of success in the past, and they will no doubt want a taste of it again by seeing their team lift the Betfred Cup.

Before they can start dreaming of that moment, the Gers must overcome Aberdeen in their semi-final on Sunday.

The supporters expect some sort of silverware, and this is the perfect opportunity to achieve that.

One change must be made however, and that is dropping goalkeeper Wes Foderingham to the bench in Cup games from now on.

He may have proved that he is a loyal servant after impressing in his appearances so far, but now that Rangers are at the business end of the competition, Allan McGregor must be drafted in.

The semi-final is far too important to lose, and unfortunately, Foderingham puts their success in this competition at serious risk.

Yes, some may argue that he has made a good case for starting on Sunday after only conceding one goal in his two appearances, but this is not enough at this stage.

McGregor has been relied upon time and time again to deliver the goods, and he will be relied upon once more here.

Steven Gerrard simply cannot go for anything other than his strongest team at the weekend, and to be quite honest, McGregor is head and shoulders above Foderingham in terms of quality.

The Gers boss must see this as a massive clash that does not justify any unnecessary risks.

He may have stated in his pre-match press conference that he was unsure who was going to start on Sunday – this is a concern, as McGregor is clearly the strongest out of the pair.

This is not a competition where you can give fringe players a run-out just for the sake of it – winning silverware means a lot to the Rangers fans, and Gerrard of all people will not want to compromise that.

He must not think twice about wielding the axe on the 27-year-old if he is serious about bring a trophy back to the Ibrox.

Foderingham is decent but not quite good enough.
