Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has confirmed that important midfielder Ovie Ejaria is a doubt for Wednesday’s game against Kilmarnock.

The Liverpool loanee was one of few high-performing players in the team’s 1-0 Betfred Cup semi-final defeat to Aberdeen on Sunday, but Gerrard has confirmed that his exertions have come at a price.

“Ovie Ejaria has a knock on his ankle so he is a doubt for tomorrow,” the club tweeted on Tuesday from their official Twitter account.

The 20-year-old has been an important contributor for the Glasgow giants this season, rewarding Gerrard’s faith in him with a series of solid performances for the club.

OPINION

Ejaria was one of few Rangers players to emerge from Sunday’s defeat at Hampden Park with any credit, so it’s a shame that he likely won’t be able to carry that form into Wednesday’s game against high-flying Kilmarnock. Steve Clarke’s team are incredibly tough opposition at the best of times, so to go up against them without a first team starlet like Ejaria would be a real blow for Gerrard. This will be a real test for the Liverpool legend and his players because Kilmarnock have started the season really well. Obviously the Gers boss would have preferred to have the Englishman available for the game but he’ll have to utilise his squad if the midfielder misses out. Gerrard has only labelled him as a doubt, rather than saying he is definitely out of the game, so it’s not as if he’s been ruled out, but his potential absence would certainly open the door for other players to step up and make an impact.
