West Brom are weighing up a bid to sign Aberdeen centre-back Scott McKenna in the January transfer window, according to the Evening Express.

The newspaper claims that the Baggies scouted McKenna, 21, as he helped Derek McInnes’s side reach the BetFred Cup final with a 1-0 win against Rangers at Hampden Park on Sunday.

It is understood that Albion are keeping close tabs on the powerhouse defender, who according to Sky Sports is valued by Aberdeen at £10million.

Good move for West Brom?

Darren Moore definitely needs defensive reinforcements in the summer after a shocking start to the season by his current centre-backs.

Kyle Bartley has been an absolute liability, Craig Dawson doesn’t look interested, Ahmed Hegazi is his usual self and Tosin Adarabioyo blows hot and cold.

McKenna has been in impressive form for Aberdeen but if he costs the Baggies £10million then they are making a huge mistake because they need a defender who is good on the ball more than anything and it’s hard to see how the Scotland international differs to what Moore already has at his disposal.

Likely to happen?

According to the Daily Mail, West Brom are eyeing up a defender for the January transfer window, which makes sense given their poor defensive record.

McKenna is young at 21-years-of-age, is already a full international and has cup final and top-flight experience so he ticks a lot of boxes.

McInnes was a team-mate of Moore during their playing days at West Brom, and Moore has been known to use his contacts within the game to make signings since taking charge at The Hawthorns.

This is a deal that could happen in the winter.
