22-year-old Greg Docherty has admitted it’s been tough having to watching his Rangers teammates in Europe while he’s out on loan at Shrewsbury.
Docherty took the chance to go out on loan this season after new Rangers manager Steven Gerrard said it would help his career to get regular game time.
He’s currently with League One side Shrewsbury, after signing from Hamilton in January, but has admitted he’s gutted to be missing out on the Rangers adventures in Europe and has vowed to come back to Ibrox stronger.
Talking in the Daily Record he said, “I’ve watched the European games and it’s been hard.
“The atmosphere seemed amazing and those are the type of matches I’ve always dreamed of being involved in, so it was tough not being there.
“I’ve taken a gamble coming down here to Shrewsbury. The hope is that while I’m missing out on some big nights this season, I can develop to the point where I’ll be able to look forward to many of them in the years to come.
“I’ve still got four years on my contract and I fully intend to see it out – if not extend it.”

Docherty is a massive Rangers fan and he took the move down to Shrewsbury to give him the best chance of making it back at Ibrox. He’s doing well at the League One side so far and scored his third goal of the season in a 6-0 thrashing of Tranmere in the Checkatrade Trophy this week, leaving Rangers fans delighted. It must be tough for him to watch what Rangers are doing without him but he’s determined to come back and force himself into the reckoning next season, and Rangers fans will definitely be hoping it works out for him. The 22-year-old signed for Rangers in January and he’s delighted that Gerrard is keeping an eye on him and that it’s not a case of out of sight, out of mind for the new manager. He wanted to prove what he could do out on loan and add goals to his game and so far everything’s going to plan.
