BBC Sports pundit Rob McLean drooled over Alfredo Morelos’ “absolutely outrageous” taken goal for Rangers in their 3-1 SPL win over Hearts on Sunday.

The Glasgow giants blew the league leaders away in the first half at Ibrox with three goals in the opening 32 minutes as they ended a memorable week on a high.

One of the talking points afterwards was Morelos’ finish for the second Rangers goal as he converted Daniel Candeias’ right-wing cross with a back-heel flick.

“Morelos scored absolutely outrageously,” McLean told the BBC Sport website. “He could have just gone for a tap in but chose to dance over the ball, and backheel it into the roof of the net. It just shows the confidence running through him at the moment.”

OPINION

Morelos rarely comes off a football pitch without doing something that gets everyone talking. Whether getting a needless booking, running foul of officialdom, producing a brilliant piece of skill or adding to his goal tally, the Colombian striker has become the most exciting and controversial player in Scottish football. It was his talent that was the subject of so much chat on Sunday as Rangers put Hearts to the sword with an impressive first-half display as they continue to make Ibrox a fortress where no opponent wants to tread. Morelos could have side-footed in Candeias’ cross and still had the same result. Indeed, on first viewing of the second Rangers goal, it appeared to be a regulation finish to a sweeping move. But, on closer inspection, and a few replays, Morelos actually jumped in the air and flicked in the cross with his back leg. It was a brilliant piece of timing and totally deceived the keeper. Heaven help him if he had wasted such a golden chance. But Morelos lives by the sword and dies by it, too.
