Chris Sutton wants Brendan Rodgers to remain as Celtic manager but has said he has a feeling that he will go if a big job comes along.

And, if that happens, he says that there’s only one manager for the job – Neil Lennon.

Writing in his column in the Daily Record he said, “Maybe Rodgers… will be happy to ignore all advances and stay to the end of his contract.

“If that’s the case, then perfect. I’m not so sure.

“If that scenario does change, Celtic can surely look no further than Lennon.

“Where Lennon comes into his own is when you look at the European competition. I’d say he’s done better than Rodgers in that sphere.

“He had his hard times like Rodgers but this is also a guy who led a side to beat the astonishing Barcelona team that was possibly the best of a generation.”

OPINION

You couldn’t blame Brendan Rodgers if and when he decides to move on from Celtic. He’s done an incredible job north of the border and although he says he’s happy where he is, he must be itching to try again in the Premier League. He seems to have hit his ceiling at Celtic and he’ll feel he’s got unfinished finish back in the English top-flight. The right job would have to come along, but he keeps getting mentioned around clubs like Newcastle and although they’re struggling they’re a huge club. If he could turn their fortunes around he would cement his legacy as one of the best managers in the British game. He will obviously leave Celtic at some point, but when will that be? And when he does go, surely Neil Lennon will be the man that the Celtic bosses turn to. Talk about unfinished business.
