Dorus De Vries is likely to have played his final match for Celtic after being completely frozen out at the club, according to the Daily Record.

The regional newspaper claim the 2016 signing from Nottingham Forest is unlikely to add to the 15 appearances he has made for the Scottish giants and “there’s more chance of Hoopy the Huddle Hound getting a game in goals these days”.

The Daily Record report De Vries is now behind Craig Gordon, summer signing Scott Bain and youngster Conor Hazard at Parkhead and is certain to leave when his contract expires next summer.

OPINION

The writing is not so much on the wall for the Celtic career of the 6ft 3in keeper (source: Transfermarkt) but indelibly etched for the world and his wife to see. Even an injury crisis is unlikely to catapult De Vries back into the reckoning as he marks time on his Hoops career. The Dutchman has not played since March and Bain’s performances when Gordon was out at the end of last season made up the mind of Brendan Rodgers in terms of the senior keeper pecking order. Worse for the Dutchman is that he has also been leapfrogged by Scotland Under-21 international Hazard, who is highly regarded at the club and could be the future first-team number one. Rodgers knows De Vries very well after managing the 37-year-old during his extensive spell at Swansea, where he accumulated 195 appearances. The keeper has not fared anywhere near as well at Celtic as he did at the Liberty Stadium, perhaps as a result of so much time playing second fiddle to main man Gordon.
