Celtic will demand £9million in compensation for manager Brendan Rodgers, according to the Sun.

Their report claims that Rodgers is on the radar of two Premier League clubs, Leicester and Newcastle, but adds that the huge sum of money will give them both a ‘headache’.

It also adds that Rodgers is aware of the valuation that he has got on his head after interest from China over the summer.

OPINION

£9million is a huge sum of money for a manager but Rodgers is irreplaceable at Celtic. All good things come to an end and Rodgers won’t be at Celtic forever, but there’s a real worry that it will take a huge amount of time to recover from his loss. There’s also a growing feeling that he’s achieved pretty much everything he can at Celtic, with a ceiling hit domestically and in Europe. There’s no doubt as well that he would love another crack at the Premier League after his time with Liverpool. Both Newcastle and Leicester would be huge jobs, but Newcastle are in trouble at the moment. They’re rock bottom of the Premier League and it’s unlikely that Rodgers would move to the Championship or that owner Mike Ashley would spend £9million on a new manager. Leicester would possibly be less attractive to Rodgers who would fancy a club that he can mould into top-six challengers. Leicester might have won the Premier League but it would be a massive transformation to get them into that part of the table season after season.
