Newcastle’s season entered a full-on crisis yesterday as they lost 1-0 to Brighton, but fans were still blown away by the performance of Jonjo Shelvey.
The 26-year-old midfielder was far and away the best player on the pitch for Newcastle at St James’ Park.
However, even he couldn’t inspire his team to get something out of the game and they’re now rock bottom of the Premier League after nine games.
One fan said Shelvey was “different class” while another said it was worrying when the midfielder is the only man offering anything going forward.
Here are the best reactions from Newcastle fans to Shelvey’s display yesterday:
Honestly feels like a matter of time before someone comes in for shelvey. Can’t do it all himself

OPINION
Full-on crisis after nine games? That might sound a bit sensationalist but this was a really bad result yesterday. Newcastle have been the victims of some really harsh fixtures that may have skewed their position in the table, but these are the games they have to win if they want to stay in the Premier League. Newcastle are also the victims of an owner who won’t invest any money in the club unless they’re on the brink of going out of the top-flight and wiping away loads of his value. That looks likely now and the only consolation for Newcastle fans is that he might well have to spend money in January to safeguard his investment. It’s a sad state of affairs when you have to talk about football clubs purely in terms of their monetary value but that’s the only language Ashley knows. The sad fact is that Newcastle are probably stuck with him for the forseeable future as well. There are better investments than Newcastle at the moment thanks to Ashley, especially at the price level he’s demanding.
