After a supremely bright start on their return to the Premier League, things have slipped at Wolverhampton Wanderers with two successive defeats.

A home loss to Watford last weekend could be put down to a poor day at the office for the Molineux stars but a slim away defeat to Brighton this weekend should have the alarm bells ringing all for one reason – their lack of goals.

The likes of Leo Bonatini and Raul Jimenez were signed over the summer, the former on a permanent deal after a loan stint in the Championship last season, as well as a number of other star players to boost their chances of success in the top flight.

Now, other than the strikers, it can be argued that everyone else has lived up to expectations, or even exceeded them, and the finger of blame needs to be pointed at those up front, for it is where the weak link clearly is.

It was a risk from manager Nuno Espirito Santo not bringing in more proven goal scoring talents to fire Wolves to success and that gamble has clearly turned out to be a big blunder from the boss, who could see his side flying even higher than they already are with a talented striker.

Jimenez is not up to scratch and Bonatini also looks some way off the required talent – and it is a problem that must be fixed in January if the club are going to hit the heights that they could with the rest of their talented squad.

Brighton won by a single goal and with a striker who was able to put chances away, that could have been another point, or even three, in the bag for Wolves.

The mistake is obvious, and it needs to be rectified in the winter market to keep Wolves where they deserve to be.
