West Ham United winger Andriy Yarmolenko will have scans on Monday on the injury he sustained against Tottenham Hotspur, according to ExWHUemployee.

The respected Hammers insider revealed the update on his personal Twitter account, after the 6ft 2in Ukraine international [Source: Transfermarkt] was forced off in the 1-0 defeat against Spurs on Saturday.

ExWHUemployee has given his take on the setback suffered by Yarmolenko: “I haven’t heard anything official but there were concerns that it’s an Achilles rupture which isn’t good!

“Scans will take place tomorrow and hopefully it isn’t this,” he finished. Yarmolenko went down untouched in the Tottenham penalty box shortly before half time, immediately ringing alarm bells amongst the West Ham faithful.

OPINION

It would be a real blow for Yarmolenko and West Ham if he did indeed sustain an achilles rupture against Mauricio Pochettino’s side. Obviously this isn’t an official line from the club so it should be taken with a grain of salt but Yarmolenko’s injury certainly looked serious at the time. The 28-year-old has emerged as a key player for the club in recent weeks so this will be a big blow for him if he faces a significant amount of time on the sidelines. Ultimately, Hammers fans will have to wait for the result of the scans tomorrow before finding out the extent of the Ukrainian’s injury, but everyone involved with the club will be hoping the setback isn’t as bad as suggested by ExWHUemployee. If it is, then certain players will need to step up for the club. The likes of Michail Antonio, Robert Snodgrass and youngster Grady Diangana will be first in line to replace Yarmolenko if his injury is a bad one.
