West Ham have confirmed that they have been handed a triple injury boost for those on the fringes of the first team as three players return from layoffs for the under-23 side on Sunday afternoon.

The Hammers’ reserve side take on Swansea City and revealed that Dan Kemp, Moses Makasi and Jahmal Hector-Ingram had all taken their final step back to a return to action by all starting the clash, as revealed on the Irons’ official Twitter account.

However, there was no place for missing man Nathan Holland, who is still absent after suffering an injury despite reports stating that he had made a return to training recently.

Opinion

Manuel Pellegrini might not be thinking about calling any of the young talents up from the under-23 side to the first team yet, but some impressive performances at this level could turn the Chilean manager’s head. All it takes is an injury or two, or suspension, and Pellegrini will have to be looking at those currently beneath the senior side to fill the void, and so being available and ready for action, rather than being out with injury, is the only way that anyone is going to get noticed. This match looks to have come too soon for Holland, who perhaps is one of the names who can consider themselves closest to making that step up to the first team, and so it will be interesting to see who out of the current crop will be the next to follow in the footsteps of Declan Rice and establish himself as the next homegrown talent. Many would have tipped Reece Oxford a while back but that looks unlikely now as he suffers a mighty fall from grace.
