West Ham United’s vice-chairman Karren Brady has named boss Manuel Pellegrini as the most “composed” she has ever worked with.

Brady has stated that composure is the one quality that sets the Chilean apart from the rest, saying that he was able to keep his concerns under control – even when the Hammers lost four consecutive games on the bounce.

She also claims that Pellegrini is no “softy” and that he is not kind as he is made out to be, despite his composure.

“The most composed I have worked with. He kept under control whatever anxieties he might have felt when we lost our opening four matches,” she wrote in her column for the Sun.

“He comes over as kind Uncle Manny but he’s no softy and as impressive as his record.”

OPINION

Brady could be right here about Pellegrini’s composure. When his team lost four games on the bounce, he never appeared like he was really worried, which showed he was able to keep his anxieties under control. Being composed as a manager is an important quality, and Pellegrini seems to ooze it – and it seems to have paid off so far. Acting all flustered and hot headed about the problems that the team had during their poor run would not have solved anything – his negativity would have filtered out to the players and made things worse. This is why Pellegrini has been underrated as a manager recently, and why he should be taken more seriously. There is a reason why he was able to guide Manchester City to the title – and he is now adopting that philosophy on the Irons. One thing is for sure though – the composure that has been pointed out by Brady will certainly prove dividends this season.
