Tottenham are proposing to hold two test events at their new stadium within weeks as they accelerate plans for the grand opening, according to the Daily Telegraph.

The newspaper claim Spurs intend for the events to take place in just over a month’s time “at the end of November” in preparation for the first match at the venue on 15 December when they host Burnley in the Premier League.

This follows discussions between Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy and contractors Mace.

OPINION

Better late than never. Spurs have been reluctant to formally give a new date for the first match after failing to meet their original mid-September deadline. But it appears that the club will now be no longer than three months behind schedule as indications grow that everything is nearly now in place. The north London club’s groundstaff recently laid a new pitch at the stadium and shots of the club erecting goalposts at one end of the pitch has excited supporters. Judging by the images doing the rounds on social media and forums, the new structure is a magnificent and awe-inspiring one that promises to be one of the best in the world. In years to come, no-one will remember that Tottenham were three months late opening it. They will just appreciate that a venue fit for the modern age has been built while the team have continued to stay competitive in the most demanding league around.
