Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that the club are set for a huge boost against PSV Eindhoven in what the manager dubs a must win clash with Christian Eriksen set to play a role either in the starting XI or off the bench.

The Danish maestro, a crucial part of Spurs’ starting XI, has been missing for a couple of weeks with an abdominal injury and made his comeback with a one minute cameo against West Ham over the weekend.

Speaking ahead of their Champions League outing in the Netherlands, Pochettino named the clash as a must win, and that Eriksen would feature in some capacity in what would be a big boost to the side.

He told De Telegraaf: “Christian is fit and can play. We will see tomorrow whether it is from the beginning or possible as a substitute.

If we still want to participate, we will have to win. That also applies to PSV of course.”

Opinion

Having Eriksen back in any sort of capacity is great news for Spurs, and even with a substitute appearance Pochettino knows that the Dane has enough quality to change the game in an instant. He is likely to be lacking the necessary game time to be considered fully fit but when their future in the Champions League is on the line, Pochettino might have to gamble and give him a surprise start to ensure that the three points come back to London. It would probably see him last for just 60 minutes or so but that could be enough to make the difference, with Tottenham having struggled to fashion the sort of chances they need to in recent games. Missing both Eriksen and Dele Alli has been a big blow, so to have one of the pair back in action should see the creative flair up front return to some degree.
