There are serious fears behind-the-scenes at Tottenham over the future of Mauricio Pochettino as it is revealed the club are predicting a move in date of their new stadium in early 2019, according to the Telegraph.

The newspaper claim on their website that the players in north London are worried that the ongoing delays to the new stadium, with no official move in date as yet confirmed, will only add to the discontent of the Argentine manager and with Manchester United and Real Madrid both named as potential suitors, the fears are doubled.

It is stated that the club are predicting that they will be able to move into their new ground in early February of 2019, and while Pochettino is said to be unlikely to exit the Lilywhites mid-season, the worry is he will depart come the end of the season.

Opinion

There is plenty for Tottenham fans to be unhappy about right now, and many of those factors will also be on Pochettino’s mind heading into the new year. The lack of signings in January, the disappointing Champions League performances and the ongoing calamity over the new ground makes Spurs look a bit amateur in comparison to their rivals and it might well be that Pochettino sees this as the beginning of the end for him in north London. However, if he truly wants that Real Madrid job next, then he might have to jump ship sooner than he would like, with the vacancy there and waiting for him. There is no guarantee that it will be available come the end of the season, and it will all be dependent on how the Spanish giants approach the absence of a manager in the dugout over the coming days and weeks. If they put a long-term fix in there, then Pochettino’s hopes will have been dashed and that could prove to be a boon for Spurs. However, a short term fix could leave another gap at the Bernabeu in summer and then the Lilywhites will be under serious pressure to keep a hold of their star boss.
