Tottenham defender Ben Davies played the full 90 minutes for Wales on Tuesday night and some fans thought he was the best player on the pitch.
It was a fantastic night for Wales and the 1-0 win means that they’re guaranteed second spot in their Nations League group, which puts them in Pot 2 for the 2020 Euros.
Manager Ryan Giggs played a really young side and it paid dividends as Derby County’s Harry Wilson scored another stunning free kick to secure the three points.
Davies was a rock at the back and a huge threat going forwards – as he often is for Tottenham.
Here are the best reactions to his performance for Wales on Tuesday night:
How stressful were the last ten minutes? Ben Davies was absolutely superb in keeping Ireland at bay, but we had enough chances to secure the victory beforehand. A nervy yet confidence-instilling display from a young Wales team. And always great to bag a win away from home.

So was Chester. Think they play well together. Ben Davies was immense and Connor Roberts doesn’t stop running.

Result better than the performance!! Wilson delivered when we needed it. I thought Ash, Chester were great for us tonight & Ben Davies was a colossus. We needed the goal to get the Irish out & could’ve got more after that. Good night in Dublin for #TheRedWall tonight!

OPINION
Davies had a brilliant game on Tuesday and he looked like the player who was marauding up and down the flanks for Tottenham last season. Where he was Pochettino’s number one choice last campaign though, he’s had to play second fiddle to Danny Rose this season. Rose has been welcomed back into the fold and it’s meant that Davies has only started three out of the eight league games for Tottenham so far. That must be tough to take but he showed no signs of rustiness on Tuesday night and helped inspire Wales to a terrific win that gives them a place in the favourable Pot 2 of the 2020 Euros. It also means that a win against Denmark in November will give them the Nations league group win. The way they’re playing at the moment you wouldn’t bet against them.
