Man City need a result tonight against Hoffenheim after losing their first Champions League game to Lyon, but they couldn’t have got off to a worse start as they conceded inside the first minute.

The City defence just seemed to part to let Ishak Belfodil in and he put the home side in front before the visitors knew what was happening.

And Man City fans flocked onto Twitter to let off steam about 30-year-old centre-back Nicolas Otamendi.

He was playing alongside Vincent Kompany tonight and fans were quick to point out that the two ageing stars shouldn’t play together.

Sergio Aguero, who else, popped up with an equaliser in the seventh minute to steady the ship and that’s still the score at half-time.

However, fans are not happy with Otamendi, who also got booked early on, with one fan saying he was getting sent off “No question”.

Here are the best reactions to Otamendi’s first-half for City:

OPINION

Man City have a tendency to concede really sloppy goals and it could really come back to bite them in the Champions League. They started the campaign as bookies’ favourites but they’re going to need to remember how to defend if they want to lift the trophy next summer. Both Otamendi and Kompany were at fault for the Hoffenheim goal – almost as if they hadn’t really switched on when the whistle went. Luckily, Sergio Aguero was there to finish off a beautiful move started by David Silva and assisted by Leroy Sane. City will never struggle to score goals but they need to get tighter at the back. After the equaliser, City dominated the first-half without breaking Hoffenheim down again. They’ll still expect to come away with the three points but the longer the game goes on, the more nervy it will get. Hoffenheim weren’t in the mood to show any respect either, taking the game to City and leaving themselves open at the back. That could be their undoing tonight.
