A section of Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter to deliver mixed verdicts to a report that the club have finalised terms with the agent of Wilmar Barrios ahead of what is expected to be a January transfer.
Journalist Luis Fregossi from Munobocaradio has claimed that Spurs have agreed to pay Barrios’ club Boca Juniors £20.2million for the 100 per cent ownership rights of the central midfielder.
The tweet, that was posted on Friday night, translates: “Wilmar #Barrios‘s destiny is England. Tottenham have agreed everything with the Colombian’s agent. The English club’s offer to the club is 23M Euros.”

Some Spurs fans are delighted at the potential capture of Barrios, with comments including ‘OMG’, while others are concerned he is not what the club need.

Some fans are concerned Barrios could be another Juan Foyth, who was prised from Argentina and subsequently spent a couple of seasons learning the ropes at the training ground. That’s unlikely to be the case. The midfielder anchorman is a proven player with a lorry-load of top-level experience. He shone for Colombia at the World Cup and has been a key player for Argentine outfit Boca since joining in 2016. He has spoken of a possible January exit, too. He recently Brazilian publication Clarin, that he is in line to leave Boca Juniors after the Copa Libertadores. “If something arrives it will be analysed and the idea is that I will leave after the Libertadores”, he said. It appears a January move to Europe, namely Tottenham, is firmly on the cards. Certainly, Spurs are in the market for a midfield anchorman, given that Mousa Dembele is in the last year of his contract and Victor Wanyama is not the force of old after knee problems. Barrios could provide the powerful and mobile energiser in the middle the team have been missing.
