A section of Everton fans have taken to Twitter to slam Richarlison for his performance in the 2-1 defeat to Manchester United on Sunday.

The Toffees conceded a penalty in the first half, and although Jordan Pickford managed to save the initial effort, Paul Pogba slotted in the rebound to put his side one goal up, with Anthony Martial slotting home the second.

Gylfi Sigurdsson netted from the spot after Everton earned a penalty in the second half to make it 2-1.

Many supporters have taken to the social media site to slam the fact that the first teamer was ineffective as a striker – with some comments including “wasted up front” and “seems a bit lazy”.

COMMENTARY

It is no surprise that the Everton fans have slammed Richarlison for being ineffective as a striker. Marco Silva should have recognised this after the game with Crystal Palace last weekend, but for some reason, he opted to play him up front once again. Based on these tweets, it is clear that it did work out the way Silva intended. Many fans have said that he is a lot better when he is playing on the wing, and that he does not perform as well when he is playing throught the middle. Hopefully Silva has learned his lesson from this clash and that he will not continue to play Richarlison in this position – but it remains to be seen whether he will persist with it. Richarlison was incredible at the start of the season, but he looks a shadow of the player at the moment. Hopefully he returns to his role on the wing very soon, as that is where he belongs.
