A section of Rangers fans have taken to Twitter to blast the performance of winger Daniel Candeias in the 1-0 defeat to Aberdeen on Sunday.

The first half remained goalless, with the most notable piece of action being Ryan Kent being brought down by Aberdeen’s Graeme Shinnie before Lewis Ferguson netted in the second half to end Rangers’ hopes of winning a trophy.

Some Gers’ supporters were far from pleased with the display of the 30-year-old senior player during the Betfred Cup semi-final, with many comments including “been dreadful today”, “been awful” and “abysmal”.

COMMENTARY

It is no wonder the Rangers fans were fuming with Candeias here – he was not at his best on Sunday. Like some of them pointed out, his final ball was far from adequate, and this is what cost them time and time again against the Dons. He could have done a lot better than he did – if anything, he just looked rather lazy and lacklustre while he was on the pitch. Some may argue differently, but his performance was there to see, bright as day. He needs to recognise that he needs to a lot better when he is playing for a side like Rangers – the fans obviously do. Winning a piece of silverware is rather important to the Gers and their fans, as they are not likely to bring home the league this year – or the Betfred Cup. Yes, Candeias is usually consistent – but by the looks of it, he certainly was not today.
