Alan Shearer has slammed Arsenal supporters as sleep-inducing in a Twitter rant about their “moaning”.

The Premier League record goalscorer and Match of the Day pundit reacted on social media to fed-up supporters complaining about their team’s coverage on the BBC football show.

Following a message from a Gunners fan who said Match of the Day had not given an Alexandre Lacazette goal enough credit, or showed enough replays of Aaron Ramsey’s wonder goal, Shearer said “stop f****** moaning man” and claimed Arsenal fans send him to sleep through a series of emojis.

OPINION

Clearly, Shearer is sick to the back teeth of Gooners complaining their club is not getting a fair shot on Match of the Day. Certainly, the supporter who got the former striker’s goat today is wide of the mark. Shearer and company did credit the team properly for their demolition job on Fulham yesterday and have been fair in their praise and criticisms of the team’s development under new boss Unai Emery. Shearer should know better than to over-react to one particular complaint, especially a polite one, although it should not be forgotten he is besieged with criticism on social media on a daily basis. It comes with the territory of a high profile in the tribal world of football, particularly from the keyboard warriors hiding behind their screens. The truth is, fans from all clubs truly believe their team is unfairly treated in the media, both from journalists and pundits.
