Arsenal legend Martin Keown has slammed Hugo Lloris for getting himself sent off in Tottenham’s 2-2 draw with PSV on Wednesday night.

Spurs’ hopes of reaching the Champions League knock-out rounds were left hanging by a thread when Luuk de Jong’s late goal saw Mauricio Pochettino’s side fail to win a third European game in a row at the Philips Stadion in Einhoven.

It may have been avoidable if Lloris had not gotten himself sent off eight minutes earlier, but Keown has now predicted that Tottenham will fail to win against Manchester City when they take on the Premier League champions this weekend.

When asked if he can see Spurs winning against Man City, Keown said on the Daily Mail website: “No. If Tottenham had everyone fit and firing, I would be saying this is a game that could win.

“Manchester City are top of the league but I don’t think it has quite clicked for them in the same way it did last season. This could be the match when everything comes together.

“Spurs will be hurting from the draw against PSV. Hugo Lloris’ confidence may have been knocked by the poor decision-making that led to his red card in Holland.”

OPINION

What has happened to Lloris since the World Cup? He made one of the worst goalkeeper errors in the history of the World Cup final in his side’s win against Croatia but that will be lost in history given the fact that France won the game, and even since then his errors have got worse and worse. His display against Barcelona was awful and this latest red card just sums up the Spurs captain’s season so far. Paulo Gazzaniga was tremendous in his few games while Lloris and Michel Vorm was injured and he should be promoted to at least second-choice goalkeeper immediately by Pochettino. If the Argentine cannot see that Gazzaniga is better than Vorm on both a short-term and long-term scale then he has truly lost his marbles. Hopefully the ex-Southampton goalkeeper will get the nod to start against PSV on November 6 instead of the veteran Dutchman.
