Mousa Dembele is set to wind down his contract at Tottenham before leaving as a free agent next summer, according to the Sun on Sunday.

The newspaper claimed via it’s print edition on Sunday [October 14, page 61] that Chinese Super League club Beijing Sinobo Guoan are interested in signing the Belgium international and a £150,000-a-week tax-free deal is on the cards for him to move to the Far East in 2019.

It is understood that Spurs are willing to listen to offers for Dembele, 31, but the midfielder can talk to foreign clubs in January when he enters the final six months of his deal in North London.

Good move for Tottenham?

There is nothing good about this news as far as Spurs are concerned because next year they look as though they will losing one of their key first team players for absolutely nothing.

Dembele will complete his seventh season in North London by the time his contract has expired and has so far made 245 appearances across all competitions for the club.

He will be very hard to replace in the centre of midfield, especially as Mauricio Pochettino’s transfer business has been very hit and miss over the last couple of years.

Likely to happen?

Dembele has been touted for a switch to China for quite some time now and Beijing Guoan reportedly attempted to sign him last January before having their advances rebuffed.

They may well get their man next summer though because at the moment, the former Fulham star looks nowhere near to agreeing a new deal with Tottenham.
