Rangers manager has predicted that a number of clubs will be left chasing James Tavernier in the future as he slaps a big price tag on the defender while confirming all his players are for sale.

The Gers right back and captain has been linked with a move to Premier League outfit Brighton after his impressive displays this season, where he has netted six goals and contributed eight assists across all competitions.

Speaking of the supposed interest, Gerrard predicted that a big-money transfer chase would be launched for the 27-year-old, and surprisingly stated that every single one of his players was available for the right price.

He told the Daily Record: “I know the CEO at Brighton very well. He’s got my number and he knows where I am. But he best go to the owners and ask for an awful lot of money if he wants James Tavernier.

“I would be surprised if teams don’t come (for Tavernier) because he’s been absolutely fabulous for me.

“Every player has their price but if the price is not right then he does not go anywhere. All my players are for sale. Let’s get it out in the open. Every single one of my players is for sale. They have all got a price.”

Opinion

Gerrard might be trying to level the playing field here by putting all his players on the same shelf and insisting they are all valuable in their own right, but what he has really said is that he values the money they could bring in more than their abilities on the football pitch. As for Tavernier, the manager is right to be demanding a big fee for his sale, for the right back is without a doubt one of the most important players at Ibrox right now at both ends of the pitch, and losing him would mean finding a replacement – something which would be very difficult when you consider his array of skills. From a speedy wing back with a dangerous cross to a set piece specialist who can put the ball into the back of the net, he has plenty of arrows in his quiver, and finding someone to fill that void, regardless of what he sells for, is a near-impossible task.
