Kieran Dowell has barely got a sniff of first team action since he returned to Everton in the summer.

The 21-year-old spent last season on loan at Nottingham Forest where he showed huge signs of development as he scored nine goals and supplied four assists in 43 appearances across all competitions.

However a couple of months into the new Premier League campaign, Dowell has made just two senior appearances for Everton, and both of them have come in weakened teams in the Carabao Cup.

For the good of his career, Dowell must start thinking about quitting Merseyside for good in the January transfer window as a move away from Goodison will surely help him develop into the top player that everyone can see in him.

Dowell has always been highly-rated by the Everton fans and their youth staff, but he simply is not getting the chance to shine under Marco Silva’s leadership.

Not letting him go back out on loan in the summer was a massive mistake as it seems like the midfielder will only be called upon if there are a couple of injuries to big-money foreign imports.

It is a shame to see that English prospects like Dowell as playing second or third fiddle to players like these, especially when they have shown that they can step up to the task.

There will be a host of clubs willing to take on Dowell in January, whether they are in the Championship or at the wrong end of the Premier League.

He just needs to have a word with his agent and Silva and try to force a move to save his stalling career.
