Aston Villa are hopeful of appointing Thierry Henry as their manager in the next few days as the club enter final talks with the 41-year-old, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper report that the Villans are confident of securing the Premier League legend as their manager, with his current deal as Belgium assistant coach having an exit clause.

The Mirror claim that Henry has impressed the clubs owners, who are preparing to sanction a deal which would see him earn £40,000-a-week, or just over £2million-a-year.

It is said that the club could also appoint John Terry as Henry’s assistant, with the former Villa defender keen on a move into management.

OPINION

It looks like Villa are closing in on the appointment of Henry after just a few days of negotiation, and a quick decision will be beneficial for the club looking forward. The longer the uncertainty goes on, the worse their chances of recovering and achieving their sole aim of promotion back to the Premier League this season. There will undoubtedly be many eyebrows raised over their choice of manager, but it will certainly be an interesting few months ahead for the club if they do end up bringing Henry in. The Arsenal legend is highly inexperienced, but we have already seen Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard take on jobs with little experience and find instant success this season, so that is a positive sign. Henry is obviously a brilliant footballing brain, and combined with Terry’s knowledge of the club, Villa could be on to a serious winner here if they do take the punt.
